After careful consideration, the City of West Burlington has made the difficult decision to make substantial changes to the 2020 West Burlington 4th of July Celebration. Following increased concerns over the COVID-19 virus we feel that with the information we have today we cannot plan to have a large public gathering at this time.
While the event will not go on as previously planned, the City of West Burlington will still be celebrating the 4th of July. We feel it is important that at this time, when our city and our nation needs to pull together, that we recognize the fight that formed this great independent nation so very long ago. The 4th of July stands as a reminder to us all that we must continue to be diligent and care for our friends, family, neighbors, essential workers, healthcare providers, and those protecting us in our military.
The City of West Burlington is planning on having a fireworks show on the 4th of July. We are still working out some details, but we are planning on having the show in an area where it is easy to see from a large number of vehicles to provide for social distancing. Final details will be announced when they are available. We hope you will all join us in celebrating this 4th of July and enjoy another fantastic fireworks display.
Additional celebration events are being discussed including live-streaming speakers from City Hall and details will be released when they are available. Our traditional raffle to fund the fireworks may also take place with ticket purchases being made online. Details on that will also be available soon.
I would like to take a moment to thank local businesses that have contributed to the event this year to make the fireworks celebration possible. Without these local businesses this would not be possible, and I will be taking every opportunity to thank them for their support.
