MONITORING VIOLATION OF THE WATER TESTING SCHEDULE
West Burlington Municipal Water Department is required to follow a specific monitoring schedule for testing your drinking water for specific contaminants. Results of regular monitoring are an indicator of whether or not our drinking water meets health standards. We take this testing schedule very seriously to ensure our citizens have safe drinking water.
On 01/29/19 a routine weekly sample was collected and mailed to the State Hygienic Laboratory at the University of Iowa. The sample should have arrived for testing on 01/31/19. Unfortunately, the sample was lost in delivery and did not arrive at the State Hygienic Laboratory until 02/04/19. Due to this delay, the laboratory was not able to properly test the sample we provided. This affected our testing schedule and caused us to be in violation. Unfortunately, this type of delay in mail delivery is out of our control.
Even though this was not an emergency, as our customers, we want you to know what happened. We also want to assure you that weekly samples leading up to 01/29/19 passed all testing requirements as well as the scheduled sample taken on 02/05/19 and each weekly sample since. We have no reason to believe the results from the 01/29/19 sample would be any different. We will continue to follow the monitoring schedule established by the Iowa DNR to ensure our water customers continue to receive safe drinking water.
